The Other “R” in Education: Relationships was published through Friesens in Altona, August, 2014. It is packed with guiding principles, inspiring experiences and practical suggestions followed over 32 years as an administrator, specialist and teacher. Patricia worked as a team with her students and their families to ensure their children were successful learners from nursery school through to grade 12. She wanted to pass this message on to new and experienced teachers and to anyone considering becoming an educator.
ASCD Manitoba published a condensed version of her chapter two in their June, 2014 Reflections Journal, “Making Connections: Transforming Classroom Practices”. She has made numerous community presentations at the Universities of Winnipeg and Manitoba and was interviewed by Dahlia Kurtz from CJOB on May 27th to talk about how relationship building with students with special needs supports their learning in the classroom and community. On May 28th she was the guest speaker at Connect Employment Services annual fundraiser, Sweet Success.
March, 2015 she developed a video Resource Companion for this book, Relationships That Open Doors, and is presently completing Schools and Communities: Relationships That Open Doors.
$1.00 from the sale of each book is donated to Connect Employment Services, a not-for-profit employment service supporting adults with intellectual disabilities to work and participate in the community.
