Broken Stone

With a broken stone clenched tight in her hand, twelve-year-old Katya flees the Soviet Union for an uncertain future in 1930s Germany.  Will it be a better place for kulak orphans like her? Will her broken stone help or hinder her growth into young adulthood?

Broken Stone continues the story of Katya in Red Stone (first published as The Kulak’s Daughter) and is the second in a planned three part series.

Gabriele Goldstone inherited scattered fragments of her family’s memories under the shadows of Stalin and Hitler and shaped them into the life of a fictional character, Katya Halter. She traveled to Ukraine and searched through former KGB files to find more missing pieces—along with the red stone that comes to symbolize Katya’s home.

Broken Stone is another Rebelight Publishing title.
